About Us

A little about my background: I was part of a team that managed a small business that eventually grew into one of the top 5 distributors in its industry. Later, I switched careers and pursued Information Technology by gaining my degree. After countless applications, I finally landed a job where I worked with incredible teams and talented individuals.

Looking back, I realise that as a student, I needed more practical experience to boost my confidence when stepping into interviews. If I had access to a platform where I could showcase my projects, explain my work by answering specific questions, use images to visually highlight my skills, and receive meaningful feedback from real clients, I believe it would have made a huge difference. It’s one thing to have a degree, but it’s another to have hands-on experience and proof of your skills.

Sure, technical people might say, "That’s what GitHub is for," and while that’s true, not everyone reviewing your CV is a tech expert. HR teams and business owners often need to understand the problems you solved in a clear, relatable way, with visuals that make your work easy to grasp. If I had been able to bridge that gap with practical work, I know it would have helped me reach my career goals faster.

Now, from the perspective of a business owner, I’ll admit I wasn’t much better at supporting freelancers. (Yes, I know, not a great track record!) When I developed SkillBooking, I realised how much I had to learn, and finding the right talent was challenging. I found an amazing design team who helped bring our current look to life, but as a startup, the cost was a heavy burden, especially when you’re unsure if your product will take off.

If SkillBooking had existed when I was building my startup, it would have saved me endless hours of searching. I could have connected with local talent that fit my budget, given them meaningful work, and built SkillBooking with their help. And to those who say, “Why not hire overseas?”—sure, I could have, but I wanted to work with talent in my time zone where we could have a coffee and build personal relationships. It’s about understanding each other’s goals and creating something meaningful together.
